Car Hire Humberside Airport Humberside InformationHumberside was an administrative county of England from 1974 until April 1, 1996. It was composed of two halves either side of the Humber estuary, created using part of Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Its county town was Beverley, its largest city Kingston upon Hull.
It had several districts - Beverley, Boothferry, Cleethorpes, East Yorkshire, Glanford, Great Grimsby, Holderness and Scunthorpe. It bordered North Yorkshire to the north and west, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire to the south-west, and Lincolnshire to the south. It faced east towards the North Sea.
At the time of its creation, there was very little connecting the two parts of the county. The addition of the northern Lincolnshire areas had been a late change, originally the plan was for it to cover the area of the current East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull. It was promised by the government that the Humber Bridge would make it a more viable unit.
