Car Rental Puerto Del Carmen Chalens Lanzarote InformationLanzarote is notable for its bizarre volcanic landscape, resorts soaked in sunshine, golden beaches and easy-going atmosphere. Its a quieter alternative to other Balearic islands.
Puerto del Carmen provides the nightlife for the island but in a much more controlled manner than the other islands.
Apart from the glorious beach life the island boasts many nature based attractions, such as La Cueva de los Verdes formed by the lava flow originating from the eruption of volcano La Corona. At the entrance of La Cueva de los Verdes, there occurs a phenomena known as jameo, the collapse of the surface due to weight or a gas explosion. Inside the caves gentle ambient music and a magnificent lighting system create an unusual ambience and an auditorium has been installed. The Visual Music Festival of Lanzarote explains the natural history of the islands unusual landscape.
The number-one tourist centre is Jameos del Agua which is also cleverly set among the many cave-like formations. The 'Jameo Grande' has been turned into a beautiful garden of tropical plants centred around a vibrant, turquoise-coloured pool.
The landscape of the national park will probably be the closest experience you can get for walking on the moon, with its spectacular craters and lunar landscape.
By car you can visit and explore the Cesar Manrique Foundation, Jardin de Cactus, El Golfo, La Laguna de los Ciclos and the inland villages.
The Canaries are remotely situated off the north western coast of Africa and are only realistically reached by plane. All the main islands in the Canaries have international airports. Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote accept the bulk of the international flights and those from mainland Spain. You can fly to the Canaries from most European cities, sometimes stopping over in Spain. Trans-Atlantic visitors usually arrive via a European stop over. There are plenty of package deals and charter flights arriving here. Inter island flights are numerous.
Lanzarotes airport is located between Arrecife (the capital) and Puerto del Carmen, most resorts are 10 (max 30 min) taxi ride away.
There is a weekly ferry from the southern Spanish port of Cdiz. There are also regular inter-island ferries.
